A judge must be fair, absolutely
neutral and must always make decisions that are based in law rather
than try to bend the law to fit the judge’s personal
biases or philosophy. Judge Pihlaja believes that his reputation
for fairness and neutrality is the reason that he has the support
of Minnesota leaders from all sides of the political spectrum.
His campaign committee is co-chaired by former Republican governor
Elmer L. Andersen and former Democratic mayor and congressman
Don Fraser.
After being selected as a finalist by a “fiercely non-partisan” Commission
on Judicial selection led by George Soule, former Independence
party governor Jesse Ventura appointed Judge Pihlaja to office.
